METAL RUSCONI was founded in 1900 by Gabriele Rusconi. The company was located in Rancio, a borough located in the
Gerenzone River valley in the city of Lecco. The factory was situated on the river bank to benefit from the strong current to drive the machines for the production of wire, nails, metal nets made from wire rods, and other finished wire products.
In Turin, Italy in 1911, METAL RUSCONI was awarded the Gold Medal at the International Trade Expo.
Gabriele’s son Millo assumed the helm of the family business in 1969 and developed many new areas of enterprise. The most productive of which was the production of copper-covered wire for fruit and vegetable packing: “Filo Bobinato OTO” (Spooled Wire OTO) was born and soon became the brand with quality and reliability for thousands of sawmills in Italy and the Mediterranean basin.
Other production areas included flat-head nails for construction, galvanized nails for shipbuilding, and copper, brass, aluminum nails for the most different applications.
In the Eighties, Alberto and Pietro, two of Millo’s sons and the 3rd generation working in the family company, diversified the company’s activities founding OTOMEC. This mechanical division of the company was born from the experience gained with copper plating and galvanizing plants creating to improve and implement
the production quality of wire drawing.
The loss of Millo in 2010 at age 91, a symbol for the previous 50 years, left a great emptiness but at the same time stimulated new energy and incentive for the continuation of a century-old activity.
The two companies, METALLUGICA and OTOMEC, now with two separate and distinct roles, still remain 100% family-owned and managed by three siblings: Alberto, Pietro, and Maria Rusconi.

Frecce oroMETALLUGICA RUSCONI with Pietro as CEO of the company, has relocated from Rancio to the city of Brivio a few miles from Lecco. The company is very successful with the production of low-carbon wires, copper-covered wires for a wide range of utilization: automotive, gratings, welded wire mesh, chain manufacturers, broom manufactures, etc. The company exports about 80% of its products.

OTOMEC, with Alberto Rusconi as CEO, is based in Olginate also a few miles from Lecco. The company designs and manufactures its galvanic treatment plants: cleaning, coating of ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
Sales are worldwide with 90% of the products marketed abroad.
